An SRA (Senior Residential Appraiser) is a professional designation issued by the Appraisal Institute, recognized as one of the most respected credentials in the real estate industry. Fewer than 1% of all appraisers in the United States hold this designation, making it a true mark of expertise and distinction.

To achieve the SRA designation, an appraiser must go far beyond the requirements of a state license or certification. The Appraisal Institute requires:

• A four-year degree from an accredited educational institution
• At least 4,500 hours of appraisal experience, including 2,000 hours focused specifically on residential properties
• Completion of seven rigorous examinations, representing more than 181 hours of classroom instruction on valuation principles, residential techniques, report writing, and professional standards

This combination of education, training, and experience ensures that an SRA is qualified to provide accurate, defensible, and comprehensive residential appraisals, as well as expert consulting, reviews, and investment analysis.
